Tuoro
rises above the rivers of the Trasimeno Lake with a wonderful sight
all over it. The foundation of the village is quite recent, as the
first testimonies of Tuoro date back to the XIV the century.
In the outskirts it is interesting to visit Ranieri Castle, which belonged
to the family of the Montemelino, from which a beautiful sight of the
Lake can be enjoyed; very intersting is also the Pieve di Confine,
erected at the beginning of the XII century and just one kilometer
away from
the village.

Near
by Tuoro sul Trasimeno, at Sanguineto, is the place where the battle
of the Trasimeno between
the army of Rome and that of Cartagine leaded by Hannibal was carried
out (217 a.C.) You can visit this place that offers a guided tour that
explains these facts of history.

Between Tuoro
and the lake there is a small exhibition (Campo del Sole) where you
can admire 28 sculptures made of pietra serena by artist of the whole
world.
Don't miss to visit Vernazzano where you find its tower Torta famous
to be pendent more than the tower of Pisa; its adjacent castle is by
this time a ruin. |
